Chiang Mai is situated in northern Thailand. This area is home to many of the Hill Tribes of various ethnic backgrounds, including the Padaung or Long-Neck Women tribe. Northern Thailand is a beautiful mountainous region with breathtaking scenery. Chiang Mai is also home to Elephant Nature Park, a refuge for rescued endangered Asian elephants. These elephants have previously been used for tourist trekking, street begging and illegal logging. many are disabled and all have stories of abuse, neglect and most lived in horrific conditions. They were rescued by the founder, Lek, to live the remainder of their lives in peace and safety at the park.
